The winning project of the school competition in Wilen bei Wil
As part of the competition for the renovation of the Wilen primary school building, the client requested a renovation of the existing school building. The main challenge of the project was earthquake safety and the differences in levels, which required major structural interventions.
For their part, the architects developed a project for a new building. A comparative study was carried out between the two projects, taking into account the three requirements for sustainable construction: economy, ecology and social aspects. In this sense, the new building was more sustainable and won over the competition jury.
The design allows great programmatic flexibility thanks to a regular structural grid and modules that allow the structure to be reversible. The wood-concrete composite ceilings rest on wooden main beams and thus enable an excellent balance between ecology and economy. The users benefit from a school tailored to their needs.
