3rd place for the bridge competition “Punt da Piz” in St. Moritz!
For this remarkable project—a bridge over the Inn River near St. Moritz—we proposed a restrained, shallow arch constructed from prestressed gneiss. This regionally typical natural stone offers outstanding material properties and aligns perfectly with principles of sustainability.
The jury report states:
“The bridge is particularly impressive for its successful synthesis of traditional construction principles with contemporary planning, simulation, and fabrication technologies. The project draws on the historic building tradition of the nearby stone arch viaducts of the Rhaetian Railway and translates it into a modern architectural language and structural concept. The assembly of the individual elements follows a clear structural logic, based on material-appropriate load transfer and optimal use of the materials employed.”
This competition gave us valuable insights into working with natural stone, and we look forward to applying this experience in future projects and design competitions.
